4. Pelletizing and Agglomeration
- The concentrated iron sand (typically in powdered form) is agglomerated into pellets or briquettes for easier transportation and use in steelmaking facilities.
- Binders, like bentonite clay, can enhance the strength of pellets during handling and in blast furnaces.
5. Transport
- Once processed, the iron ore concentrate or pellets are transported to steel mills, either domestically or internationally.
6. Use in Steelmaking
- Sand iron ore is mainly used in steel production. It can be directly added to blast furnaces or smelted into pig iron before converting to steel.
Challenges in Processing Sand Iron Ore:
- Lower Iron Content: Sand iron ore often has lower iron content compared to hematite or other high-grade ores, making it less economically viable in some cases. Processing operations aim to address this by upgrading the ore via beneficiation.
